This Saturday is St. Patrick’s Day, a day to celebrate all things Irish and deck yourself out in green. But did you know our founder, James Joseph (J.J.) Haverty, has Irish roots as well? His father, Thomas Haverty, emigrated to the U.S. during the potato famine in Ireland in 1848. Thomas came to New Orleans and eventually Atlanta, where he decided to make it his permanent home. J.J. was born on October 30, 1858 and was named after his uncle who had remained in Ireland.
Watch our Havertys History Part 1 video to learn more about the potato famine and what drove Thomas Haverty to emigrate to the U.S.
