Hey sailors , this one’s for you! Whether you’re a sailor or just a sailor at heart, nautical nuances can add instant style to any room – just add water and stir! So set sail in your design craft, and navigate your home. Spruce up your living room, dining room or bedroom with anything nautical – no restrictions please. Check out these suggestions:
- Try stripes – Stripes are classic and create a clean, bold look. They never go out of style. Stripes can be the center of attention or they can act as a neutral base for any embellishments. This season’s runways have been filled with countless striped ensembles. The nautical stripe is trendy right now, so you should have plenty of inspiration for designing your room. The use of stripes in clothing easily translates to ideas for upholstered pieces. You can use anything with stripes – chairs, pillows, ottomans to name a few. You’re not limited to striped upholstery – you can go for a navy and white striped accent wall. It’s a fabulous backdrop for your favorite nautical –inspired wall art.
- Go for the gold- Add gold, bronze or brass accents. Using lamps and vases in gold and metallic finishes adds a touch of luxury to the space. Just think of the gold accent pieces as jewelry for your room. A little gold goes a long way. If you dream of yachting or sailing the seas, the gold accents can make you feel right at home.
- Tie it all in – Nautical knots and white sailing rope can be perfect for bringing it all together. Even an area rug whose border portrays classic nautical knots can do wonders to anchor the space.

Check back tomorrow for more coastal chic design inspiration. Our next Inspiration Session is on June 16. Let us know if you’ll be attending so we can save you a spot.
