Our first post discussed how adding floral accents can complement many different patterns when mixing and mingling in your space. But florals and floral interpretations like damask, paisley and ikat can also be the main act in your living area scene.

Color counts: When pairing any of these floral touches with a pattern, make sure you tie it all together with a base color to maintain a sense of simplicity. Of course, be sure the color is complimentary to the patterns you are using.

Focus, focus, focus: Aside from color, density and size of the prints you use are also key. Choose a main print, a focal point print if you will, and find other prints that complement that one, not compete with it. Your eye should be drawn to the main print first then the other ones. Do this by starting with the largest and busiest print, pair it with something muted or sparse then layer on a small or contrasting geometric pattern. Finally, choose a base solid color to anchor the space. This will give your eye a place to rest.
