Snooze in style: soft contemporary
18 Wednesday Jul 2012
Imagine spending each night in a spa. Designing a soft contemporary bedroom is the perfect way to create a personal spa you can retreat to every night. Everyone knows peace and quiet make for excellent bedfellows. How about turning your sleeping space into one that will make them want to stay forever? Follow these tips, and your bedroom could be your new favorite tranquil spot.
Make soft landings – If you intend to create a soft, spa-like ambiance, avoid overly ornate or colorful décor that overwhelms the senses. Instead, soothe your senses with soft, neutral design. Choose plush fabrics in subdued shades such as ivory, oatmeal or stone. A rich shag rug in ivory is perfect for creating an airy feel in the room and under your feet. If you want to include color, go for muted tones that mimic things found in nature like pear or paprika.
Use metallic pieces – Yes, metallic accessories still have a place in a contemporary oasis. You’ll need candlesticks for your lemongrass candles, right? Why not make them metallic? And you can use metallic frames to hold your black and white prints. They work great as a neutral focal point to usher you into your serene zone.
Add simple botanicals – Crowded and calm aren’t usually in the same sentence; nor should they be in the same room. Maintain your minimalistic approach when adding the finishing touches to your space. Botanicals are just what you need to add interest and color without overtaking the tranquil space you’ve created. Orchids and succulents are a great choice to complete you clean, contemporary look.
