No one can make a sea shell shine the way a world traveler can. They know how to make anything super chic and super glamorous – including coastal design. So what if you’re not a world traveler? Surely you must play one in your dreams. No worries though. You can make your home look like you been around the world and back and enjoyed every minute of it. All it takes is a little mind trip to a few of your favorite coastal cities. Here are some tips on turning your space into one that reflects your caviar dreams:
- Go international – If you’re lucky enough to travel, be sure to bring back souvenirs. A collection of anything inspired by the far east’s love of pearlescent and metallic finishes adds glamour to your space. Try incorporating pieces like pearl-finished shells, starburst mirrors or even high-shine trinket boxes to keep things interesting. Always remember, pearl and metallic baubles look just as good sitting atop a French accent chest as they do wrapped around your wrist.
- Sail the southern coast – Look to southern cities with lots of charm and rich history like Savannah, Charleston or New Orleans. These cities lie along the southern coast and have distinct styles that speak to even those with the most discriminating tastes. Consider the classic, southern bedroom collection with all the elegant scrollwork or a display of starfish from the sandy beaches of coastal South Carolina.
- Make it personal – Incorporate personal photos in your décor. Making them black and white gives a clean, crisp look and will match anything. If you prefer prints, try images of the sea and sky or shells and coral that remind you of a special experience. Don’t overlook things you might already have. Adding an ornate arrangement of shells and starfish to your heirloom silver might add a well-needed nostalgic feel to your space. This is an easy way to make your chic design personal.
